How to Make Money With Google Search Engine

Continuing Our Series on the Most Popular Ways to Earn Money Online.

This time, we’ll delve into earning from the renowned search engine, Google. This is one of the methods I initially disregarded due to my misunderstanding of it, as I never explored ways to generate income through it. I assumed it was impossible to make money from it.

Surprisingly, I started receiving earnings and payments to my bank account through various methods, most of which, I later realized, were thanks to Google.

Before we introduce you to the ways you can earn using this search engine, it’s important to clarify that we don’t mean you’ll earn money directly from Google itself. Instead, there are both direct and indirect ways that can either help you generate income or increase your profits through something related to Google, your business field, or your personal projects.

Additionally, we’ve outlined other methods in the same context to introduce you to different opportunities you can benefit from.

Earning strategies from search engines vary depending on the type of engine and the country where it’s most used. However, sometimes you may generate income from one search engine even though you were targeting activity on another.

How to Make Money With Google Search

What is a search engine?

A search engine is an online service or computer program that allows users to find relevant results for what they are looking for. It searches a database of web-listed files based on the word, phrase, or term entered by the user. The engine then provides a list of web content results, including websites, images, videos, or other online data that linguistically match the search query.

For example, if you type the word “restaurant” into a search engine and click search, it will display results relevant to your query. This might include nearby restaurant locations, related articles or webpages, images, videos, and more.

The most famous search engines are: Google, Bing, Yahoo, Ask.com, Baidu, DuckDuckGo, and others…

How Do Search Engines Work?

The process is simple:

  1. You access the search engine and type in a query.
  2. The engine explores the search content through crawling, indexing, and ranking.
  3. It displays the most relevant results based on your search.

Below are 12 ways to earn money from Google:

1. Earning from Google AdSense through blogs or websites

Owning a blog (a type of website) is one of the best ways to earn income by leveraging the features provided by search engines. Achieving a strong ranking on Google and other search results is a key goal for every blogger aiming to increase their blog’s revenue. But how does it work?

You start by creating a blog, completing all necessary setup steps, and then publishing articles in the niche you’ve chosen. After a certain period and after publishing a specific number of articles without violating Google’s policies, you can create a Google AdSense account and submit a request to have your site (blog) approved.

Google Search

Once approved, you can place ad codes on your site. Your earnings will depend on how visitors interact with the ads. So, what role do search engines play here?

Search engines are among the most important free traffic sources. For example, Google alone processes more than 3.5 billion searches per day and over 1.2 trillion searches per year worldwide. Ranking highly in search results can bring a good number of visitors to your site, which directly impacts your daily earnings.

Of course, there are other ways to monetize your blog as well.

2. Google AdSense through YouTube

Google AdSense is not limited to blogs or websites; you can also use it to earn from the videos on your YouTube channel.

Simple information: YouTube is owned by Google’s parent company, Alphabet.

After creating your channel and publishing videos in your chosen field, you can apply to join the Google AdSense program, provided you meet the required conditions, such as the number of subscribers and total watch hours for your videos.

Although this method is somewhat separate from search engines, you can still use them to generate additional revenue. YouTube videos also appear in online search results, which represents another opportunity to boost your earnings. For this reason, it’s crucial to focus on the video title and description before publishing.

You can also link your videos to your blog or website, enabling you to earn through both platforms. However, there are several other ways to make money on YouTube.

3. Google Play Store platform

Whether you are a game or app developer—or even if you are not—you can leverage the Google Play Store to generate income in various ways.

If you use Android devices, you’ve probably accessed Google Play on your smartphone or other devices. You may have downloaded apps and games. Did you notice ads appearing within those apps or games? Or perhaps you encountered an option to purchase something while using them?

These are two common ways to earn on Google’s app store. The first is through advertising programs like Google AdMob, where you earn revenue from ads displayed in your app, just like with websites and YouTube. The second is by offering paid features or in-app purchases within your game or application.

Optimizing your app’s SEO will help it rank higher in both the app store and search engines, further increasing its visibility and earning potential.

4. Google Maps + Google My Business

If you own a business or run an establishment like a restaurant, bookstore, gas station, hotel, grocery store, or even an accessories or clothing shop, you aim to attract the largest possible number of visitors and customers. This, in turn, will help you generate more income. But how can Google’s search engine assist you in this?

Have you ever searched for something on Google and been shown results for businesses, establishments, or commercial properties nearby? This is where the power of Google Maps and Google My Business (GMB) comes into play, enhancing and growing your business (see the image below).

Google Maps Google My Business

Imagine I am a tourist traveling to your country and the area where your business is located. I might need to buy something, have a meal, or find other services, but I’m unfamiliar with the area. For me, Google would likely be my first choice to search.

Businesses listed by their owners (or others) in GMB and on Google Maps are prioritized in search results. Therefore, you need your business (if you own one) to appear in search results in an attractive format, as shown in the image above.

If you don’t own a business to list on Google Maps, you could collaborate with business owners to add their business details to Google Maps and GMB for a fee.

5. Promotion through Google Ads

Unlike the free method mentioned earlier (Google Maps), you might want to take things a step further and reach a larger audience without waiting for them to search for you. What does this mean?

Simply put, with Google Ads, you can grow your business or other activities by launching ad campaigns about your services or products. These campaigns help you connect with your target audience and strengthen your brand name in their minds.

Have you ever seen an ad on a website or blog, or even through a YouTube video? Chances are, you have. You can create and design static or animated ads about your business and pay for them to be displayed on websites, YouTube videos, or other platforms, based on your customized settings.

Alternatively, you can create and publish ads directly in search engine results. You’ve likely come across such ads while browsing.

Does this help increase traffic to my business or sales of my products and services? Consider the frequent ads we see for Nike. If I’m looking to buy a product like clothing or shoes, and I find items with the Nike logo alongside those from unfamiliar brands, there’s a high likelihood I’ll choose Nike.

Of course, several factors influence whether an ad campaign succeeds or fails.

6. Google AdMob

Google App

As mentioned earlier, Google AdMob is one of Google’s advertising programs, alongside Google AdSense. It allows you to monetize the apps you’ve developed and want to profit from.

This is done by embedding ad codes into your app. Once active, the ads will be displayed within your app based on the criteria you set, enabling you to earn revenue from user interactions with these ads.

7. Google Drive

You may already know that Google Drive is a cloud storage service offered by Google as one of its many services. While it might seem somewhat unrelated to search engines, it can still be used in certain ways to generate income.

8. Search engine evaluation

Search engine evaluation is a job that allows you to work with specialized companies to assess the quality of search engine results, such as those from Google. Your role involves reviewing how accurate and relevant the results are for specific keywords or search queries.

These companies help search engines improve their algorithms, and in return, they pay you for your time and effort. The work is often flexible and can be done remotely, making it an excellent opportunity to earn extra income if you have the time and an eye for detail.

9. Selling books (Google Books)

You might not be aware that you can leverage your skills in writing and publishing books to earn money through Google. This is one of Google’s services that competes with other platforms.

On the Google Play Store, under the “Books” section, you can find many books in English and other languages. You can even purchase them and download them as eBooks (availability may vary by region).

10. Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Anything you create that can be accessed via online search—whether it’s content, an app, a book, a video, a map listing, or a business—will face competition from many others.

How can your results rank at the top? It all comes down to Search Engine Optimization (SEO), which means optimizing your content to be “search engine-friendly.” This content could be a website, blog, channel, videos, or other formats.

The stronger your SEO, the greater your chances of appearing in top rankings. The closer you are to the first page of search results, the higher your chances of earning revenue and increasing profits.

If you have a blog, you can make significant income by having your articles appear among the top results. The same applies to products, videos, and other content.

Perfect SEO is the dream of every content creator, whether they are bloggers, sellers, or others.

11. Google’s affiliate marketing program

Google Tablet

I had never considered it before, but during my research for this article, I discovered that Google does offer an opportunity to earn through affiliate marketing. Google partners with one of the most prominent companies in the affiliate marketing space: CJ Affiliate.

On the Google Workspace platform, they state: “Become a Google Workspace Affiliate,” followed by “Earn by promoting Gmail, Google Meet, Drive, and more.” You can join CJ for free, promote your affiliate links, and earn a specified commission. (This method is quite distant from earning through search engines.)

12. Blogger platform

Earlier, we discussed leveraging search engine optimization to profit from Google AdSense ads and other sources through blogs or websites (method 1).

To elaborate, one of the platforms that allows you to create and host your website or blog is Blogger, owned by Google.

Blogs significantly contribute to enhancing search engine content. Most of the results you see when searching on any search engine come from blogs or websites, whether they are written articles, published images, or other forms of content.

  1. Create a blog.
  2. Purchase a template and a domain name.
  3. Complete essential settings like verifying blog ownership and other configurations.
  4. Publish articles about the niche or field you’ve chosen.
  5. After some time, enroll in an ad program and start earning.

While there are various ways to benefit from owning a blog or website, ad revenue remains the most prominent. To earn from these ads, you need visitors. Among the ways to attract traffic are advertising campaigns across social media platforms and the web.

However, the most effective method is optimizing your blog or website’s SEO and capitalizing on search engine traffic.
