10 Ways to Make Money Writing Online 2025

How To Make Money Writing Online

Continuing our series of tutorials on ways to earn money online, today we’ll discuss how to make money through writing in the year 2025. The internet provides a platform for leveraging your skills or hobbies, turning them into a job or even a profitable project.

The same applies to writing enthusiasts, as the technological and communication advancements—particularly the internet—have opened up numerous opportunities to profit from writing. This includes writing in general, blogging, authoring books and stories, translation writing, and more.

Since “writing” is such a broad field, each branch offers its own unique methods and approaches to earning money. Some involve writing only, others combine research and writing, while some are tied to e-commerce, connecting you to the world of online buying and selling.

Similarly, some of the methods mentioned represent online jobs or freelance work for others, but they may yield higher earnings than a regular, on-site job. Especially since you won’t incur transportation costs between your home and workplace, as you’ll be working from the comfort of your home.

Additionally, some methods represent your own business or project, enabling you to launch a venture that might be challenging to establish in the physical world. Certain methods also fall under the category of passive income, meaning you continue to earn profits from work you’ve done in the past. This is one of the most rewarding ventures you can undertake.

Before diving into the details, it’s worth noting that this article is part of a broader guide titled “How to Make Money Online for Beginners,” where we introduced several methods (20 different ways) to earn money online. Among these methods is “earning through writing and selling books.” If this method doesn’t suit you, you can explore other options mentioned in the guide.

In this article, we’ll provide a more detailed explanation of how to make money through writing and selling books. So stay tuned or check out the methods mentioned in the larger guide to discover other ways to earn. Let’s begin!

How To Make Money Writing Online

We mean everything you type using the keyboard of your electronic device, whether it’s a smartphone or, preferably, a computer. This involves typing letters, words, numbers, and phrases that eventually form sentences and paragraphs.

For the purposes of this discussion, we’re focusing on writing related to the internet. Naturally, you won’t be writing on the internet using a pen (though you could, if you wanted to, in some cases).

Based on the methods we know, use, or that are relevant to our topic, we’ve categorized them into 8 ways to earn money online. (Technically, there are 10 headings, with the last one containing multiple methods, as well as a section on implementing these methods in the real world.)

Profit from blogging

1. Make Money Blogging (Job)

If you’ve never heard of blogging before, it is the process of writing on a website called a blog (a type of website).

To clarify further: You are currently on a blog reading a blog post (article) that I wrote. I am a blogger, and I work in the field of blogging. I write articles and publish them online, and, of course, I earn money from it.

In this case (the job), your role will be to work as a blogger (writing articles) for one of the websites owned by others.

You’ll write articles for someone else’s blog, whether it belongs to an individual, a company, or an organization. They will pay you a monthly salary as compensation for your work.

I’m not sure if there is a dedicated platform where you can showcase your interest in working for blogs. However, you can reach out to blog owners or search for blogs that are actively looking for writers to contribute to their content.

2. Make Money Blogging (Private business)

In this method, you’ll also write articles, but the difference is that you own the blog, and you are in control.

You’ll choose the niche for publishing and create your blog using one of the available tools, such as Blogger or WordPress. Then, you’ll publish articles on your chosen topic.

Creating and managing a blog doesn’t mean you need to be an expert in programming to get started. Nowadays, anyone can set up their blog, work on it, and start earning without dealing with complex coding. (In some cases, you might need to copy or tweak some code, but it’s straightforward with the help of tutorials on platforms like YouTube.)

Writing an article for your blog is similar to writing a text document on your computer using a writing programs.

Once you’ve set up your blog, you can monetize it in several ways. The most popular method is using an ad program, such as Google AdSense, which displays ads on your blog. You earn money based on visitor interactions with these ads.

Additionally, you can leverage your blog for affiliate marketing to earn commissions or other benefits.

3. Writing and selling books

Perhaps you enjoy writing literary or artistic books or crafting short stories (whether fictional, horror, comedy, etc.).

Maybe you have a collection of cooking recipes or dessert-making guides. Or you’re passionate about plants, animals, or other subjects related to your work or studies. Perhaps you’re an adventurer, a traveler, or someone who writes about lifestyle topics (building wealth, parenting, etc.). Or maybe you specialize in teaching specific subjects (like programming, drawing, etc.).

Whatever your passion or expertise, you can transform it into written content or short publications so long as you enjoy doing it. Once you’ve organized your thoughts and decided what to write about, draft your work using a computer program like Microsoft Word or similar tools.

How will you sell it?

Method 1: Selling Digital Books

Amazon offers a platform called Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP), which allows you to upload your written content and sell it as digital books. These are readable on Kindle devices or similar apps available on smartphones.

What you’ve written will remain in digital format (like the articles you read on websites), but people will need to purchase it to access the content.

To learn more about this method, search online for “Kindle Direct Publishing” or its abbreviation, KDP.

In this case, your task is to complete your books and upload it to the platform (such as Amazon). Once it’s published, anyone interested in your book can purchase it to read. You earn a profit from every sale made. Since these are digital books, there’s no need for printing or shipping them to buyers.

Method 2: Selling Printed Books (Option 1)

This method works similarly to digital books but with an added step. Here, the books are printed and shipped to customers who purchase them. Platforms like Amazon (or similar platforms offering the same features) handle the printing and shipping process.

Method 3: Selling Printed Books (Option 2)

In this method, you’ll prepare the printed books yourself and then list them on platforms like Amazon or others for sale (Selling online in this way can be considered a form of e-commerce).

Writing and selling books

4. Writing stories

In the previous method, we discussed earning by creating and selling digital or printed books. However, you can also write and sell stories or short stories using any of the three previously mentioned methods.

I recently searched the Amazon marketplace and found numerous stories being sold there. You could write a short story for children or other audiences, upload it, and list it for sale.

5. Translation of articles and topics

Translation, as you may already know, is the process of converting text or speech from one language to another, from the source or original language (the one you encounter) to another language.

Since translation is usually driven by a specific purpose, in this case, the purpose is profit. If you are fluent in two or more languages, you can work as a translator, translating between the languages you know in both directions (e.g., from language A to B and vice versa).

Owning your own translation or writing business can often be more profitable than working as a writer or translator for a company or agency. Running your own business also gives you the flexibility to choose projects and hire freelance contractors when your workload is high.

To leverage your translation skills for profit, here are two main approaches:

A) Selling Services:

You can offer your translation services to others, who will pay you for the work you do. To do this, you can list your services on platforms such as: fiverr.com, Freelancer.com, upwork.com and others..

B) Blogging:

With search engines like Google regularly cracking down on low-quality content through updates, magazines, bloggers, website owners, and other internet service providers are increasingly aware of the importance of high-quality content.

Since high-quality content now attracts more traffic and generates higher earnings, the demand for online content writers and translators is growing.

If you’re highly skilled in writing and translation, you can earn a lot by writing articles, blog posts, newsletters, high-quality eBooks, sales pages, and reports for people who need them for online marketing or other purposes.

Other Things You Can Do:

In addition to translation and blogging, here are some other areas where your translation skills can be profitable:

  • Proofreading and editing
  • Press releases
  • Resumes and cover letters
  • Transcription
  • Creative writing
  • Research and summaries
  • Business copywriting
  • Legal writing

There are many ways to capitalize on your translation skills, and we might not know all of them. If this field interests you, you can explore further to find more opportunities.

6. Proofreading

Proofreading is the process of correcting linguistic and grammatical errors in a text or similar content. For example, a proofreader reviews a text in search of grammatical or linguistic mistakes, aiming to correct them.

As mentioned in the methods of writing and translation, you can offer proofreading services on freelancing platforms such as those we previously mentioned.

You can also work on blogs as a proofreader to ensure the accuracy of all written content. Additionally, there are several other ways to earn through proofreading.

Blogging

7. Freelance writing

We have mentioned or referred to them multiple times. In short: You can sign up and create an account on one of the freelancing platforms such as Fiverr, Upwork, Freelancer, or others.

After registering, you will create your profile to showcase the type of service you provide and set the price others will pay for this service.

For the Freelancer platform, you can search for people who are requesting the type of service you can offer. On other platforms, people will browse and search for services to purchase. If someone comes across your profile and requests your service, they will pay the money, and then you’ll communicate with them to deliver the service you are offering.

On these platforms, you can offer and request various types of services depending on your expertise, including writing and translation services.

It is worth noting that simply offering a service does not guarantee receiving orders, as you will be competing with others offering the same services, and you need to outperform them.

8. Posting on social media

There are several ways you can make money through social media platforms. To explore them, you can refer to the article 20 Ways to Make Money from Social Media.

However, concerning the topic of this article, we will only discuss blogging and managing social media pages.

Regarding blogging, there are some platforms that allow you to earn money through blogging on them, including Facebook, which enables you to earn through Instant Articles. These articles are specifically designed for news publishers and others.

This method is similar to the way you earn money from blogging mentioned earlier, as you can earn revenue from ads displayed on the articles you publish.

As for managing social media pages, this involves taking care of a social media page (such as Facebook pages) owned by others.

Essentially, you will handle the page on behalf of its owners, who do not have the time to do so. This includes posting content, designing posts, engaging with followers, and other related tasks.

To offer social media page management services, you can create an account for this purpose on the aforementioned platforms.

There is a possibility that Facebook might have removed the monetization feature for Instant Articles.

9. Can the same thing be done outside the online world?

One of the advantages of the internet is its speed and ability to simplify things. For example, you can write a story, upload it to Amazon or a similar platform, and start earning profits from each sale. But how long would it take to do this in the real world? You’d need to write it, find a publisher to print it, and distribute it to bookstores and similar outlets (a long process, and there may be even more steps I haven’t mentioned).

When it comes to online work, it:

  • Reduces your expenses (or makes them zero).
  • Enables you to reach a larger audience.
  • Allows anyone with internet access to view your work.
  • ffers a potentially higher profit margin.
  • Reduces effort.

As for the previously mentioned methods, many of them can also be applied in the real world. However, implementing them might be more challenging or require more capital and effort, unlike what the internet provides.

10. Other ways to profit from writing

Among other methods:

  • Copywriting
  • Selling notes and reviews
  • Research writing
  • Technical writing
  • Copy Typing
  • Offering an online course to teach others something related to writing
  • Selling books) Providing a course or written explanation and selling it in parts (multiple books, e.g., part one, part two, etc.)

FAQ:

Yes, it all comes down to overcoming competitors and achieving a good ranking, whether on search engines or the platforms where you’ll sell your services or books. Then you can get $1000 or even more.

How can i get paid to write as a beginner?

There are some ways for beginners to earn money through writing, including working for a content mill. However, if you have good language and grammar skills, you can start with one of the previously mentioned methods.

What website pays you to write?

There are many websites that pay you for writing, including platforms like ListVerse, Cosmopolitan, Medium, and others. Not to mention platforms for selling services and working as a blogger on existing online blogs.

What are the best ways I can make money off my writing?

As one of the best ways to earn money from your writing, I suggest combining more than one method. For example, you can have your own blog while also offering your services on freelance platforms. The same applies to other methods, depending on your skills and what you find best for you.

Can I make money writing online for free?

Offering your services on dedicated platforms is usually free, and you can publish your books on Amazon for free. If you manage to find websites where you can become a writer, this will often be free as well. As for blogging by owning your own blog, you can start it for free, but I don’t recommend doing so.

*Note: Content from content mills is often considered spam and undesirable on the internet, so it’s better to move forward with the other methods I explained before the FAQ paragraphs.
